The Good Samaritan Award
In 2019, the POP Foundation started the Good Samaritan Award. Its an award given to two exemplary individuals or organizations — one award for the most Exceptional Local Community Member and the other to the most Outstanding International Citizen. Each Good Samaritan Award recipient will be inducted into the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Hall of Recognition.
Qualified Nominators of the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Award
The right to submit nominations for the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Award shall, by statute, be any registered and active POP Member. Those nominated with be presented to the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Committee, which consists of 3 POP Foundation Board Members and 4 POP Members.
What are the requirements for the POP Good Samaritan Award?
To be nominated you need to meet the following requirements:
- Be a registered and active POP Member
- Demonstrate exemplary behavior in each of the eleven principles: wisdom, courage, humility, self-control, gratitude, optimism, liberty, hard-work, integrity, justice, and love despite others or circumstances.
- Cannot nominate yourself.
How are the Good Samaritan Award Laureates selected?
September – The POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Committee prepares to receive nominations. These nominations will be submitted by POP Members, POP Chapter Leaders, POP Ambassadors, POP Honorary Members, POP Leadership, and POP Advisory Board; previous POP Good Samaritan Award Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the POP Good Samaritan Award; present and past members of the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Award Committee; and former POP Advisers.
February – Deadline for submission. In order to be considered for the award of the year, nominations for the Good Samaritan Award shall be sent in to the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Committee in Utah before the 1st day of February the same year. Nominations postmarked and received after this date are included in the following year’s discussions.
February-March – Short list. The Committee assesses the candidates’ work and prepares a short list.
March-August – Adviser review.
October – POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Laureates are chosen. At the beginning of October, the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Committee chooses the Good Samaritan Award Laureates through a majority vote. The decision is final and without appeal. The names of the POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Award Laureates are then announced.
December – Good Samaritan Laureates receive their prize. The POP Foundation’s Good Samaritan Award Ceremony takes place on 10 December in TBA, where the Good Samaritan Laureates receive their Good Samaritan Award, which consists of the POP Good Samaritan wooden baton and Diploma, and a document confirming the prize amount.
